Why we need you

We are in hyper growth mode (think doubling our server capacity every few days!) and we need someone to help ensure that our backend systems can keep up with demand by leveraging cutting edge technology and tools to build and support our infrastructure.

What you will do

As a core member of our engineering team, you’ll work directly with developers to deliver and scale our services efficiently, with high quality and at a fast pace. You will bring best practices to managing and operating our servers.

You’ll leverage your experience to architect and adapt new services, tools and processes that will allow us to support our growing infrastructure. You will conquer a variety of technical challenges around infrastructure and configuration management, monitoring, security, and deployment.

On a day to day basis your role will likely include the following:

  • Develop automation frameworks (Infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines) and tooling that will be consumed by the entire engineering organization
  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud security controls including tenant isolation; security handling at infrastructure, network, resource, application and data levels; vulnerability assessments; and application firewalls
  • Develop and promote monitoring systems that will be used across the company to increase observability, detect issues and improve response times to failures
  • Optimize performance and scaling of the platform
  • Support and mentor engineering teams to own their own configurations, parameters, and application secrets
  • Identify roadblocks and inefficiencies in the current workflow, and work with teams to plan and remediate improvements
  • Manage incidents and incident responses to ensure proper follow-up and mitigation
  • Document processes and maintain documentation as systems evolve.
  • Research, suggest and implement new technologies, strategies, and tools to solve technical issues
  • Collaborate with the rest of the software development team and with other stakeholders

Who you are

You are comfortable working remotely and are a strong self starter used to minimal supervision. You take pride in your craft. Maintaining high availability in your systems is a must for you. You love to innovate and work in an environment where there are no limits. Specifically, you possess the following:

  • 5+ years experience building and running highly efficient and scalable solutions in the cloud
  • Strong experience working with AWS services (EC2, Route53, RDS, VPC, Elasticache, etc)
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes, Docker and container management tools
  • Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux, scripting languages, and automation tools
  • Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, etc)
  • Experience in automating Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) and release management using tools such a Jenkins and Docker Registry
  • Knowledge of the latest security protocols and experience with securing cloud environments and monitoring for security breaches
  • Experience with monitoring and reporting on cloud spend
  • Experience reporting on Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance metrics such as service up time
  • Experience with Incident Management Process, SRE best practices, and continuous improvement
  • Strong interest in modern DevOps best-practices, software solutions, and architectures
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and truly enjoy and take ownership of your work
  • Desire to undertake projects and tasks with an attention to detail coupled with a sense of urgency
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

Bonus Points

  • Experience with monitoring services (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Datadog)
  • Experience with Helm, Redis, BigQuery, Firebase, Segment, Aurora, Pgpool
  • Strong programming and analytical skills
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Degree in Computer Science
